5 TENSES
A.  Simple Present Tense
Use for habitual action, general truth
§  To be              : am/is/are
§  Verb
o   I/You/We/They         : Verb I
o   He/She/It                  : Verb I + s/es
§  Adverb time    : today, every day
§  Possitive Sentence
S + To be
S + V I (+s/es)
§  Negative Sentence
S + To be not
S + Do/Does + not + Verb I
§  Interrogative Sentence
Do/Does + S + Verb I
To be + S
Example:
Ø The Earth is round
Ø She goes to school every day
Ø I eat rice every day
Ø I do not work in the office
Ø Does he read his book?
B.   Simple Past Tense
§  To be              : was/ were
§  Verb               : Verb II
§  Adverb time    : last week, yesterday
§  Possitive Sentence
S + To be
S + V II  
§  Negative Sentence
S + To be not
S + Did + not + V I
§  Interrogative Sentence
To be + S
Did + S + V I
Example:
Ø I was in Jakarta last week
Ø Adit asked me about his homework
Ø I went to Banjarmasin last holiday
Ø Rizky did not lie to her
Ø Did I do my exercise?
C.   Simple Future Tense
§  To be              : Will/Shall or Will/Shall be
§  Verb               : Verb I
§  Adverb time    : tomorrow, next week
§  Possitive Sentence
S + Will/Shall be
S + Will/Shall V I
§  Negative Sentence
S + Will/Shall be
S + Will/Shall not + V I
§  Interrogative Sentence
Will/Shall be + S
Will/Shall + S + V I
Example:
Ø Yenni will be there next month
Ø We shall go to Bali tomorrow
Ø They will give me money
Ø I shall not ask him about his holiday
Ø Will you study together next week?
D.  Present Continuous Tense
§  To be              : am/is/are
§  Verb               : Verb I + ing
§  Adverb of time: now
§  Possitive Sentence
S + To be + V I + ing
§  Negative Sentence
S + To be + not + V I + ing
§  Interrogative Sentence
§  To be + S + V I + ing
Example:
Ø I am reading book now
Ø She is washing her clothes
Ø You are wacthing the football now
Ø Susan is not eating meat
Ø Are they doing their homework in the class?
E.   Present Perfect Tense
§  To be              : have/has or have/has been
§  Verb               : Verb III
§  Adverb of time: since, once, several time, just
§  Possitive Sentence
S + have/has V III
S + have/has been
§  Negative Sentence
S + have/has + not + V III
S + have/has not been
§  Interrogative Sentence
Have/has + S + V III
Have/has + S + been
Example:
Ø We have been there since morning
Ø He has hidden your pen
Ø We have visited her twice
Ø Nikita has not lent me pencil
Ø Have they written a letter for their teacher?
